Sanitary Lateral Replacement Program Changes
The city is scaling back its generous lateral replacement program: instead of paying 100% for pipe bursting during street projects, residents will get a 50% match for work beyond the right-of-way. The city will also cover risers tied to deep sewer mains, and plans outreach to encourage participation.
Water rate structure and utility tax equivalent
The 2024 rate case is boosting water utility cash flow, and a PSC public hearing on another rate increase is set for late July.
Merrill Street well station inspection
State DNR rules require the Merrill Street emergency well to be inspected every 15 years. The approved bid came in well under the $150,000 budget, though extra repairs may add costs once pumps are pulled.
Backup generator maintenance contract
The city's five backup generators keep power on during outages — critical for wells and city facilities. A five-year maintenance deal with Total Energy Systems replaces Cummins, which had parts and service delays during past emergencies.
